The future of moving: Container shipping and storage
Our customers’ expectations are simple – they expect their belongings to get from their old home to their new home, quickly, safely
Our customers’ expectations are simple – they expect their belongings to get from their old home to their new home, quickly, safely and without incident. By and large, this process involves a crew packing and loading everything onto a truck, then the van operator hitting the road to the new destination where the van operator and crew unload the belongings with the same level of care. However, no business is immune to change, and the moving industry is no exception.
One area where we see the moving industry changing is how your belongings get to your new home, and that’s using containers. While shipping containers aren’t a new technology, they haven’t been widely seen in the domestic moving industry. Anyone who’s worked with Hilldrup knows how serious we take providing excellent service to our customers, and no change we make is solely for our benefit. The rise of container shipping and storage has some inherent advantages for our customers, which we wanted to outline:
- Cost-effective container shipping: Things can be consolidated using containers which helps to maximize the use of space. Using containers to consolidate and maximize space allows for fewer trips and trucks, allowing the van operators to get your belongings to your home efficiently.
- More delivery date flexibility: While we continually hire the best in the business, containers also limit the impact the driver shortage could have in the future on scheduling moving and delivery dates. With containers, we will be able offer flexible one day delivery dates, allowing our customers to select the single day that works best for them.
- Same service: Whether we ship our customers’ belongings on a truck or container, they will always receive the same personal attention from our move coordinators and the same benefit of having knowledgeable and attentive van operators to pack, load and deliver everything safely. The changes associated with container shipping and storage all happen “behind the scenes,” all to the benefit of our customers.
When to use container shipping?
As container shipping becomes more prevalent throughout the moving and shipping industry, we expect to see many more uses. From corporate moves, to cross country migrations, there are a lot of applications for container shipping that may make your life easier.
One of the best ways to utilize Hilldrup’s full-service container program, which includes a container that can hold up to 1,400 pounds and offers 240 cubic feet of space, is for recent college grads. It turns out, our containers are nearly perfect for a college apartment. Even better, Hilldrup offers a free 21-day holding period, which gives college grads even more flexibility when they’re searching for a job or housing. After those first three weeks, there is a small nominal fee for monthly storage per container.
The full-service container program also eliminates the hassle of packing and moving your belongings to your new place as our Hilldrup movers can pack, ship, and unload your belongings. We can do this for you in a short timeframe, giving you even more flexibility during those transitional times in your life.
We know that every move is both exhilarating and unnerving at the same time. If you need more flexibility throughout your move process, give us a call to help set up a container move.
