The mission of The Chris Long Foundation’s Waterboys initiative is to create solutions for clean water access and educational equity.  It was for this cause that Hilldrup sponsored and took part in The Chris Long Foundation’s Waterboys Charity Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia on April 18th and 19th.  Chris Long, a retired eleven-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl champion who was awarded the 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his philanthropic work, grew up in Charlottesville and played football at the University of Virginia (UVA), also based in Charlottesville.  It was fitting that the charity challenge, a two-day golf tournament, took place in his hometown.

Hilldrup, a long-time supporter of UVA Athletics and of The Chris Long Foundation, was thrilled to take part in the Charity Challenge, both by sending a team of golfers to rub elbows with Long and NFL great Jason Kelce, and also by sponsoring the Welcome Reception on April 18th at Boars Head Resort & Spa. Kelce, a Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowler who played for the Philadelphia Eagles, joined Chris and other athletes in 2019 to hike Tanzania’s Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise funds for drilling wells, bringing clean water to African communities.

In addition to the golf tournament and Welcome Reception, the Charity Challenge event also included a concert and after party for event attendees to enjoy.

Those in attendance for Team Hilldrup included Russ Watson, Executive VP and Chief Administrative Officer; John Tompkins, Vice President; Mike Walker, Hilldrup Board Member; and Keith Wampler, Hilldrup Board Member. During the golf tournament, they were able to play with “celebrity golfer” Mike Golic Jr., a broadcaster and podcast host.

We enjoyed taking part in the event and are glad we could support this worthy cause!
